Mainstream news outlets have tried their darnedest to pitch Obama’s health care plan without divulging too many details. ABC went as far as to run what essentially was a free infomercial for the White House in order to drum up support. Only the administration’s take was presented during the prime-time event; no contrary opinions were offered. It’s been up to conservative talk radio, FOX news channel, and Internet columnists and bloggers to be the “real” news media — actually informing Americans as to what’s being proposed.
And so, as the general populace slowly realizes what is contained in this piece of legislation its popularity wanes. The Wall Street Journal reported today that 42% of Americans now are against the proposal and of those with private insurance 47% think it’s a bad idea. Remember, this result is when most of us are generally uninformed as to specifics. What would the support level be if everyone knew this? For those of you who didn’t want to jump to the proffered link to Chron Watch, I offer a few of the facts the article detailed.
- Page 29 [of the proposal]: Admission: your health care will be rationed!
- Page 30: A government committee will decide what treatments and benefits you get (and, unlike an insurer, there will be no appeals process)
- Page 42: The “Health Choices Commissioner” will decide health benefits for you. You will have no choice. None.
- Page 50: All non-U.S. citizens, illegal or not, will be provided with free services.
- Page 59: The federal government will have direct, real-time access to all individual bank accounts for electronic funds transfer.
- Page 65: Taxpayers will subsidize all union retiree and community organizer health plans (read: SEIU, UAW and ACORN)
There are more — many more.
